Prevention and Health Promotion Laboratory at UJEP FZS
Introduction
The Prevention and Health Promotion Laboratory at UJEP FZS focuses its activities on identifying the risk factors that contribute to the emergence of chronic ‘civilisation’ diseases. The research covers specific areas of an individual’s lifestyle, which include nutrition, physical activity, mental hygiene, risky behaviours and addictions. The workplace is sufficiently staffed and equipped to perform objective evaluations of parameters clarifying the health status of individuals.¨
List of examinations offered by the Laboratory to the public
- Spirometry
– functional examination of the lungs, basic examinations typically conducted as part of lungs and respiratory disease diagnostics,
– both lung volume (VC) and one-second capacity (FEV1) and expiratory rates can be evaluated at different levels of the vital capacity.
- BodyJett
– comprehensive analysis of the human body,
– based on bioelectric current analysis,
– determines the proportion of fat/muscle mass in the body, water, BMI, basal metabolism and recommended daily caloric intake.
- BeneCheck PLUS Multifunctional Monitoring System(glycaemia, uric acid, cholesterol)
– determines blood glucose, uric acid or cholesterol levels using capillary blood samples,
– results available within seconds depending on the type of examination.
- BeneCheck Hb Haemoglobin Monitoring System(capillary blood haemoglobin determination)
– determines the haemoglobin or haematocrit levels from blood samples.
- Cholesterolmeter SD Lipidocare
– determines the full lipid profile using a drop of blood,
– total TC cholesterol, HDL cholesterol, TG triglycerides, non-HDL calculation, LDL/HDL calculation.
- BalanceTutor
The unique BalanceTutor technology draws on an approach that involves using unexpected postural perturbations and the subsequent reactive postural response. Capable of inducing a trip or a slip. The advanced technology works with a platform moving in the medio/lateral and anterior/posterior directions; while standing, walking or running.

Movement Study Laboratory
Service offers
All of the measurements and tests can help:
coaches in compiling specific targeted training plans for athletes
monitor the development of motor skills and abilities over time
physicians, physiotherapists and occupational therapists in objectifying various parameters of movement (spatio-temporal parameters of walking, angles formed by selected joints, the magnitude of muscle activation or the sequence in which selected muscles are engaged during a specific physical activity, etc.)
physicians, physiotherapists and occupational therapists in comparing the condition of the musculoskeletal system before and after a therapeutic procedure or before and after surgery
seniors in determining the degree of stability/instability of standing or walking
various forms of therapy using feedback (mostly visual) in improving standing stability, thus reducing the risk of falls, especially in the elderly
