Scientific focus

The FZS focuses on medical disciplines. Research is undertaken at specific departments, departments shared with Masaryk Hospital and in the faculty’s laboratories.

The creative efforts of the Department of Occupational Therapy are focused on using modern robotic approaches in patients with brain damage, in patients with multiple sclerosis and in paediatric clients with neurological diagnoses. In its creative endeavours, the department works closely with the Neurology Ward of Masaryk Hospital in Ústí nad Labem, the Multiple Sclerosis Centre in Teplice, with Lázně Teplice v Čechách, PN Horní Beřkovice and PN Bohnice-Praha, Severní Terasa Home for the Elderly and the Klubíčko rehabilitation centre in Ústí nad Labem. The department’s academic staff, in cooperation with students, perform occupational therapy interventions for children and adult clients.

The creative activity of the Department of Physiotherapy is focused on rehabilitative efforts before large scheduled surgeries, the effects of respiratory prehabilitation in patients before planned thoracotomies, physiotherapy in women after breast surgeries and sports physiotherapy, walk analyses before and after surgeries in spondylosurgery patients and patients with DK arthroplasty.

The creative efforts of the Department of Nursing are geared towards the clinical environment in teaching nursing students, pain evaluation, nursing issues in seniors and reliability of venous thrombosis diagnostics performed by medical staff. As part of contract research with the EUC „Elucidate” Endowment Fund, the department is working on a project aimed at enhancing the competencies of general nurses and radiological laboratory technicians working with outpatient care providers.

The creative ventures of the Department of Midwifery and Specific Disciplines comprehensive care system of women during physiological pregnancy, childbirth and the post-natal period, and on the activities of midwives in the area of taking care of newborns, quality of life of women with condyloma accuminata, and raising awareness of breast and testicular cancer among youth.

Creative efforts are also undertaken at eleven hospital departments: Department of Anaesthesiology, Perioperative and Intensive Care Medicine, Department of Paediatrics, Department of Gynecology and Obstetrics, Department of Cardiology, Department of Neonatology, Department of Neurosurgery, Department of Ophthalmology, Department of ENT and Head and Neck Surgery, Department of Radiology, Department of Trauma Surgery and Department of Urology and Robotic Surgery.
